Philip Ellis reconfirmed for Audi TT Cup 2017

Our very own half German, half British globetrotter Philip Ellis is known to many in the real and virtual worlds of racing as a very talented driver, his talents even extend to the presentation of our cars in the sim world, with Philip creating many of our newest paint schemes. Although his availability to commit to any serious sim racing is hampered, he at least has a good and envyable excuse, now finally announcing that he will again compete in the Audi TT Cup for 2017.

What started as a mere fun outing at a track day in early 2010 set the foundations for an unexpected career. Having won a three day ride in a Formula BMW courtesy of his achievements in school, Philip impressed everyone with his speed despite no serious racing experience prior. This caught the attention of the racing school owner, and not even 12 months later, he found himself on the grid as a full entrant in the 2011 Formula Lista championship. Despite not attending one of the race weekends, Philip just managed to clinch the title in the final race, on his début season nonetheless.

Such a showing earned him a huge jump on the racing ladder, taking him straight into the coveted Formula 3 Euro Series. Although budget constraints prevented him from attending most of the season, it was still a thrilling experience and a privilege to be linked with such a prestigious series. Philip spent the next few years trying new challenges in the racing world, and even inducted himself into university outside of it. He had a brief spell driving KTM X-Bow's, competing in kart racing and even endurance racing - he even took up driver coaching during this time.

Approaching 2016 however, Philip returned to full-time racing again, announcing he'd be taking part in the Audi TT Cup that year. Although a fairly new series still in its infancy, it has plenty of exposure at its disposal, running as a support series for the internationally-received DTM Series. Although he had an initially difficult introduction at the opening race, he recovered well to finish a respectable 6th overall in the drivers standings, picking up a podium at Nürburgring and multiple high-scoring finishes en route. With a whole season now under his belt, hopefully 2017 develops into an even better year for our nationally ambiguous, but highly able racer Mr. Ellis. With his first test already on the horizon and scheduled for April, we wish him all the best for the upcoming year!
